Sperm survival question

Okay, if new research suggests that sperm can live up to 5 days, then it seems to me that pregnancy would be easier to achieve. So, is that the exception or the rule??? I would feel better knowing that most sperm last only 24- 48 hours max...at least that way I could pass off my infertility as bad timing...but what can be said of the 5 days??? Geees...sounds like more stress to me? So, which is it really? 24 hours? 48 hours? or 5 days? And I am talking what is the majority?? Not those special rare circumstances... Thank you... Joy
