Checked the archives and didn't find answer re: gestational diabetes 1 hr test and fasting. From: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 13 Feb 2002 10:40:23 -0600 (CST)
Hello, I had my gestational diabetes screen done at 27.5 weeks. It was a one hour glucose test with the 50 grm cola drink. My level came back at 110, which my midwife said was in the normal range. However, I didn't think to tell her that it was inadvertantly a "fasting" test - my appointment was first thing in the morning and I hadn't had anything to eat or drink since dinner the night before. Is 110 too high for a "fasting" 1-hour test? My first pregnancy was normal and my daughter was born at 7lbs 3 oz at 39 weeks. I have gained about 21 pounds (now at 29 weeks 0 days), but I am a little overweight to start (normally 200 at 6' tall). I think my overall weight gain will be less than 30 lbs this time, and it was about 22 lbs last time (but I was heavier then than now.) Should I ask to be retested to make sure my levels are really ok?? I would hate to put my baby at risk. Thanks
-- Amanda
