first, if you are straining hard to have bowel movements, you should try to get your stools softer by drinking lots of water and eating fiber.

This is probably not really teh mucus plug, but rather vagianl secretions, which are increased in pregnancy. Do mention it to your doc so she/he can rule out an infection, though
