Microbid for a Possible UTIFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 9 Feb 2002 11:07:46 -0600 (CST)
I have been experiencing mild contractions off and on and after going in for some monitoring and a urine test my doctor's office called me back to say that there was some bacteria in my urine, (don't know how much or what kind of bacteria). I had no symptoms other than urinating frequently, which I contributed to drinking a lot of water and being pregnant. They prescribed me Microbid, 100 mg, twice daily for 7 days. Here are my questions: 1) I'm in my 25th week of pregnancy. is this a safe drug to take? 2) Since I had a UTI about 8 months ago, should I begin to have "sterile catches" of my urine, to ensure it's my UT bacteria and not vaginal? 3) Should I be tested for UTI's once a month from now until the end of my pregnancy? 4) How long does it take for a UTI to become dangerous? (i.e. cause preterm labor, kidney infections, etc)
