placenta previaFrom: Diane (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 8 Feb 2002 20:50:08 -0600 (CST)
Thanks for previous answers to "loss at 24 weeks". They were great answers but it made me think of a few more questions. History: 1st pregnancy was full term, no problems, c-section. 2nd pregnancy ended at 24 weeks gestation, I woke up with bleeding enough to soak pajamas and 2 maxi pads within the hour it took to contact MD and get to hospital. By the time I got there I was fully dilated although I did not sense any contractions. I had an appt less than 48 hrs prior and check of cervix (high and closed) because of spotting a few times on toilet paper (very light) in the previous day. When MD did the emergency c-section, she reported that the placenta started coming out first so a vertical incision was also needed to get the baby out. I have asked my own MD's questions and they have said "we just don't know". I saw all the MD's just once, so no one really knew me or my case. The only note on US regarding placenta was low anterior. 1. Any ideas on cause? 2. Does incompetent cervix seem appropriate with the bleeding, fast dilation, 2nd pregnancy? 3. Could placenta previa and the pressure from bleeding trigger the body to signal dilation of the cervix?
