Group B Strep, +From: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 6 Feb 2002 18:36:43 -0600 (CST)
I just tested pos for gbs at 35 weeks. From what I read in my book and on the archives, it seems pretty common and treatable and doesn't have me TOO worried. However, in a book I have from '91 says that it can travel up the vagina to infect the membranes, and that it causes infection DURING pregnancy, even before labor. 1) Is this really true? If so, why won't I be treated until labor? Also, I read in the archives gbs isn't an actual threat to a healthy newborn with an intact immune system. 2)At how many weeks is this accomplished? Would it be a threat to an infant born at 37 weeks? Thanks!
