How rare are late 3rd-tri losses in healthy women?From: Kim (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 6 Feb 2002 10:54:15 -0600 (CST)
I'm 34 weeks w/#3. Had PTL with #2 but doesn't seem to be recurring as I'm still closed up tight, though 50% effaced. I am otherwise healthy, as is the baby from all indications. I've read so much about the following on this board about the following: 1. Cord accidents 2. Abruptions 3. Infection that cause a loss of a healthy baby in the 3rd tri. The archives pretty well settled me on abruption (I understand it's rare absent serious trauma, smoking, cocaine, HBP, none of which are issues for me). I understand that cord accidents are nothing one can predict or prevent, and are also very rare. However, I've come so far in an emotional pregnancy, and still I worry. A very short answer from a doc along the lines of "don't worry much about these things, they're rare in a healthy pregnancy" would really set my mind at ease. If, of course, such is true! Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated, including, as my 13yo dau would say, "mom, take a pill alread!" (I think this means "relax" in teenspeak). Thanks
