2 week right-sided headaches - normal?From: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 4 Feb 2002 10:16:53 -0600 (CST)
Hello, I am 27.5 weeks pregnant. For 2weeks I have been having recurring headaches on the right side of my head. I have episodes 4-5 times a day, lasting from 15 minutes to several hours. There is no pattern of triggers – in fact, they strike while I am sleeping from time to time. They feel like a searing, throbbing pain – similar to the pain you feel if you are lying flat on your back and stand up too quickly. I get spots and shooting stars in my right eye during the episodes, and can feel my pulse in that part of my head. Tylenol is not effective. My blood pressure is fine (110/60) and my urine tests negative for protein etc. I did not experience them during my first pregnancy. I mentioned them to my midwife on Friday, and she didn’t have any suggestions but mentioned possibly referring me to a neurologist if I am still having them in another 2 weeks. My mother suggested I get checked for her condition – Trigeminal Neuralgia. Any thoughts about what these headaches might be and whether seeing a neurologist is even appropriate? Are they just normal pregnancy pains? Thanks for your response.
