(1) Small gestational sac - any chance? (2) Suspected EctopicFrom: ruby (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 26 Jan 2002 09:45:40 -0600 (CST)
Dear All I am 37. Two previous normal pregnancies. I am now 6.4 weeks into third pregnancy. Started bleeding early week 5 (varying from spotting to light period level)and still bleeding 8 days later. End of last week (at 6.1 weeks) I was called in by our hospital as a suspected ectopic on basis of HCG rise 1700 to 2200 in 2 days. They recommended immediate laparoscopy but I held out for trans vag scan first. It showed appparent 4 mm gestational sac. No yolk sac or embryo visible. Closed cervix. No sign of bleeding (?!). They dated it at 4-5 weeks but I know that my dates are right because we used an ovo kit. Therefore the gestational sac is at least a week behind what it should be. Latest HGC (6.3 weeks) was 3100 (so doubling every 4 days). Still light bleeding. My questions are: 1. Is there still any risk of ectopic? 2. Is there any chance of viability or does the small gestational sac (a week behind) + bleeding + HCG only doubling every 4 days + no nausea or tender breasts, mean it is doomeed? Nobody here (England) seems to know. Many thanks
-- Ruby
