It sounds like what they call Braxton-Hicks contractions, though you are getting them earlier than most. They are painless, and generally not the cause for alarm at *all* - just the body's way of preparing itself for eventual delivery. You might want to do a search of the forum (at the top of the page) for Braxton Hicks (or just BH for short), it might put your mind at ease - almost assuredly they are not the same kind your friend had at the end of her pregnancy that stopped her from working.
