Preconception planning regarding prescription drugsFrom: Kathy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 18 Jan 2002 19:52:54 -0600 (CST)
My husband and I have decided to try for our first child in June. At the moment I am struggling with the issue of which drugs will be safe to take. I have problems with repeat sinus infections and related TMJ pain always on the left side. I have a deviated septum (diagnosed via CT scan) and year round allergies (hives, sneezing etc). To keep things functioning normally; I have a regimen of Allegra D (12 hr 2x's a day), Rhinocort Aqua (2 squirts each nostril once a day) and daily nasal irrigation (sometimes 2x's a day if having problems). I am a bit concerned since both drugs are category C's. Are there any decongestants/antihistamines and corticosteroids that are pregnancy friendly or some other alternative routine I can use to keep things under control while trying to conceive? One doctor suggested Zyrtec to another reader in the archives but I looked up Zyrtec D and it is also a category C. I am seeing my gynecologist early February and would like to be armed with information before I go.
