It sounds to me like they *are* trying to rule out a luteal phase defect! My understanding is that endometrial biopsy is the "gold standard" test for that disorder, and it is definitively diagnosed by determining (via biopsy) that the uterine lining does not have the appropriate glandular development or thickness for a given number of days post ovulation. So you could have an LP of 14 days but your endometrial biopsy might look like you were only 2 or 3 days post ovulation. That would be a luteal phase defect. Hopefully an MD will correct me if my understanding is incorrect. -jane.
