Jane, contractions don't have to be painful to start to dilate you. I went into early labor at 32 weeks with my second daughter under similar circumstances to yours... little ol' contractions, not painful, but they just didn't stop. I went in to the hospital and they stopped labor and put me on Brethine and partial bed rest for 4 weeks (had her at 37.5 weeks, everything was fine). If they're still at it this morning after a night of rest, you prolly better call your practitioner.

What they usually tell you when you call is: drink lots of water (being dehydrated can stimulate contractions) and lie down on your left side, and time the contractions. If they don't stop in like, 2 hours after doing this, head in to labor and delivery. Good luck and let us know what happens!
