Mice, LCMV exposure and birth defectsFrom: Alex (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 7 Jan 2002 21:45:44 -0600 (CST)
Hello, I am 14 weeks pregnant and we recently found out we had mice living in our garage. Over the last 24 hours my husband has caught 14 mice in 2 traps. I was concerned that the exposure to the mice may cause problems to my baby. I have been reading on the internet about Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis Virus and the risks it poses to an unborn baby. I do not spend alot of time in my garage I go out there a few times a day to either put my dogs in the yard or to go to my car. I have not come in direct contact with the mice (haven't seen them) and do not believe I have seen any of their droppings (though my husband has). I am concerned that the virus can be contacted through aerosolizing. What do you know about LCMV and how concerned should I be? Thank you
