Just got back from Dr....

Hi Dr, I am so angry right now with my Dr. I really loved my Dr until today. I am 36 weeks pregnant and I unfortunately have genital herpes since 1992. I happen to be in the middle of a minor outbreak. The doctor gave me a prescription today for Valtrex. I have also been having mild contractions off and on so the doctor wanted to check me internally to see if I had dilated any. I told her I did not want her to do this because of the herpes outbreak. She proceded to place her fingers in my vagina and into my cervix and found out I was 2 cm dilated. I told her I was worried that her exam put my baby at risk of herpes. What if she touched the herpes lesion with her finger and then touched the inside of my cervix? Is she nuts! I feel now the virus could have affected my baby during this exam. She said as long as my water did not break I have nothing to worry about. She acted like it was no big deal and I was over-reacting. She went so fast with the exam I'm sure she was not careful to avoid touching the sore before inserting her finger in my cervix. I feel like reporting her to someone! Please give me your opinion, am I right or should I cut her a break and trust that she knows what she is doing? It seems theoretically possible that my baby could get herpes this way.

Thanks alot, Amanda
