conflicting ultrasound datesFrom: M (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 31 Dec 2001 14:57:39 -0600 (CST)
Hello, I am currently 19 weeks pregnant but I am actually writing this for a friend who recently discovered that she is also pregnant. Her delima is this. She is married with 2 children but was very tragically a victim of rape. After discovering that she was pregnant, she wanted an US to try to determine who that father was which would determine whether or not she continued the pregnancy. The first US, done on Dec. 19, showed that she was 7.5 weeks pregnant -- which would indicated the rapist was the father. Then, exactly one week later (at an abortion clinic), two more US (one vaginal and one abdominal) showed that she was futher along -- 11.2 weeks and 10.6 weeks, respectively). Can ultrasounds be that far off? If the first was accurate, the second and third should have dated the pregnancy at less than 9 weeks. Needless to say, confused, she left in tears and fears terminating now b/c the baby could be her husbands. Would the second two US be more accurate b/c the fetus was bigger and easier to measure? Thank you.
