Christine....I am 31w4d PG and I also get contractions when sleeping on my side. I was laying on my side for my non-stress test the other day and was having lots of mild contractions. Who knows...maybe i just notice them more when im on my side.

Also, as far as sleeping on your back goes, what i have been told is that sleeping on your back will become so uncomfortable that you feel the need too change positions before it can really cause any damage. Sleeping on your left side is the best for circulation too your uterus. I find now that laying on my back is just so uncomfortable that I cant do it anymore.
