Hi Tracy, I just know that in my own experience, I did have to choose. I was able to walk around prior to the epidural...but when the pain became too severe the epi was put into place and I had ZERO feeling in my legs - I wasn't going anywhere! I know that at other hospitals they offer different types (there is one called a Walking Epidural, but as my hospital did not offer it) of options. I'd check with your Doc to see what will be available to you. Good luck!
