If it was the line in the control window, the test was defective. If you have a normal line in the control window, and a sideways line in the result window, then I would count that as a negative result. If you are having pregnancy symptoms and you don't get your period in a week or two, I would retest, and if still negative I would call your Dr. and see about getting a blood test or at least some input.
