Longer than average cervix?From: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 27 Dec 2001 16:44:12 -0600 (CST)
Hello - I've searched the archives on this one, and have found plenty of info on short cervixes but nothing on long ones...I have read that the "average" cervical length midway through pregnancy is 2.5 to 5 cms. At an u/s at 21 weeks, 2 days, the u/s doc told me that my cervix is 6 cm. With my first pregnancy, my waters ruptured and it took cervadil, pitocin and a lot of positive thinking to start contracting - finally delivered vaginally 36 hours after membranes ruptured. My midwife told me later that the labor-fairy sprinkled me with magic dust and I was lucky to avoid a c-section (was also GBS +). My question is this: is my cervix longer than normal, and if so could this condition contribute to another marathon labor with this pregnancy? If yes, can you tell me where that labor fairy lives so I can make arrangements for more of her magic dust? Thanks!
