Kelley, congratulations! What a Christmas present! I don't know much about ferrets, but I have three cats, so I can answer that. Cats who live outdoors or who are otherwise able to kill and eat rodents (rats, squirrels, whatever) are likely to have toxoplasmosis, which can cause severe birth defects. If your cats are strictly indoor cats, you probably have no need to worry, unless you have a mouse problem! LOL--just joking. Anyway, the other way you can get toxoplasmosis is through eating undercooked meat, so be sure that your food is thoroughly cooked. Drink lots of water throughout your pregnancy: it helps prevent miscarriage and cord accidents! I would definitely move the litter out of the bedroom and start having your partner take care of that chore. My doctor insisted on that, even though he knows my kitties are indoor cats. (And believe me, it's been a pain listening to my husband gripe about doing that chore for all these months, plus he doesn't change the litter enough to suit me or the cats.) Maybe you could do an online search about the ferrets. Personally, I think you can keep all your pets, because you've been living with them and exposed all this time prior to your pregnancy. Good luck and have a blessed pregnancy adventure.
