Macrobid for a possible UTIFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netMon, 24 Dec 2001 12:06:17 -0600 (CST)
I had my urine dipped, and it didn't show much. The urologist cultured it, and said there was 10,000-50,000 units of bacteria. I was told that 100,000 is a true bladder infection. Now, since this wasn't a sterile catch, I realize you can't be sure if it's vaginal or UTI. My OB prescribed Macrobid for 5 days. My question is, even if this isn't a uti, is the Macrobid pretty much a benign drug? I took it for 3 days 2 weeks ago, shouldn't it have cleared up anything I would have had? I only have burning occassionally. So, I guess treating it aggressively is better than not at all in case of a kidney infection, right? Thanks so much for your help. Happy Holidays.
