Just out of curiosity, why do you think you would know if you had GD or not, if you weren't tested for it? Diabetes isn't like a some diseases, it doesn't necessarily have symptoms that smack you across the face and tell you that you have it. Speaking as one who knows... Luckily, I was tested, and I assure you no one was more surprised than I was. I don't know what interventions you fear, but my own pregnancy has been fairly uneventful, except for having to do finger sticks (to monitor blood sugar levels) and inject insulin twice a day. Otherwise, life is pretty normal, including meals. As for risks with GD, you could be risking heart and other developmental problems in the baby, increased risk of miscarriage, as well as having a large baby that may be difficult to deliver vaginally. With yourself, uncontrolled diabetes can cause organ deterioration, including the eyes and the heart (among others). I wouldn't think it would be something anyone would care to risk. If you want to talk, let me know, I'll be happy to try and explain further. I know I didn't want to test either (there's a family history of diabetes, and I am "advanced maternal age", so I guess I was in denial about it), but I am glad for my sake, and my baby's sake that I did.
