Re: mulitple markers and incidence of down syndromFrom: Angela (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 21 Dec 2001 15:43:58 -0600 (CST)
I tested positive for DS with the afp screening test and was also concerned because the fetus had a slightly short femur (which is also a DS marker). I did a huge amount of searching for statistics on the internet. One thing I read was that about 10% of fetuses have at least one DS marker (and you know that very few babies are born with DS). Waiting for the amnio results to come back was hellish (they just called me this morning and everything is OK). One more thing you should know is that the doctor won't leave a message on your machine with the results of the test either way so if you come home one day and there is a message for you to call the doctor, don't panic (like I did -- I just assumed they would leave a message if it was good news). I hope that this helps to ease your mind a little.
