Femur length and Down's SyndromFrom: Angela (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 14 Dec 2001 15:08:33 -0600 (CST)
I saw a question from a woman who was worried because her sonogram showed a femur length that measured longer than expected. I have the same question but for a short femur length. I tested positive for DS with the AFP test and recently had a sonogram and an amnio. The doctor and sonographer said that the sonogram results looked normal. I was at 17 w 5 d and all measurements were 17 w 4 d except the femur which was 16 w 5 d. My doctor told me this was within the normal deviation. Is it? I was reading that short femur length is a sometime sign of DS and I'm wondering what the normal standard deviation for these measurements is around 17-18 weeks. My husband and I are both quite tall (I had also read that many short people have fetuses with short femurs). Thank you.
