Hypopituitarism in pregnancyFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 14 Dec 2001 12:32:08 EST
Hello doctors. I have a complex question. I am currently 39weeks and five days pregnant. I wondered if anyone could answer a question for me. I was diagnosed as having hypopituitarism (secondary to pituitary necrosis) in 1998. (aged 31yrs) I am now 34yrs old. I have since diagnosis been on replacement thyroxine 100microgrammes daily and hydrocortisone 10mg in the morning and 5mg in the evening. I had IVF treatment to achieve this pregnancy as I am normally ammenorrhic. So far my blood glucose, free thyroxine and random cortisol levels are said to be within normal limits. It has also been advised by my endocrinologist to cover my labour with intravenous hydrocortisone. My blood pressure has been within normal limits, and I am asymptomatic from the point of view of the hypopituitarism My questions are these - 1. What problems would I expect my newborn to have from the endocrinologic point of view? 2. What tests if any should the baby have at birth ? 3. If these questions are mainly for the Paediatrician, could you please kindly tell me of a forum like yours where I can post messages relating to babies and children? 4. Would I have problems with producing breast milk as I intend to breast feed my baby? Please kindly reply Many thanks
