Contractions or stomach flu?From: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 13 Dec 2001 15:53:52 -0600 (CST)
Hello, I'm 20 weeks pregnant. My husband and I vacationed in Mexico last week, and he came down with a bug (or possibly a hangover!) in the middle of our trip. He continued to experience symptoms for several days after our return. Two days ago, I developed some symptoms similar to those my husband experienced: abdominal pain and cramping, frequent, watery BMs, back ache and probably a little dehydration. Earlier that day, our 20 week u/s had revealed an apparently healthy baby and a long, closed cervix (although low-lying placenta/marginal placenta previa). When I asked my m/w if I needed to be seen about these symptoms, she asked me whether I was having uterine contractions. Although I was in labor with my daughter for 36 hours, I honestly don't know whether the pain I'm having is contractions or whether it is abdominal. My uterus doesn't seem to be tightening, and I'm not having any pelvic or rectal pressure, but I do have a lower back ache and a lot of discharge. I felt better this morning after a night's sleep, but here at the end of the day I'm miserable. In your opinion, does this sound like a stomach bug, or something more worrisome? Thanks so much for your time. Happy Holidays!
-- Amanda
