You have strep? Wow, you are a bad person. (just kidding). Your facts are correct. The risk issue comes into play in the way a physician determines who to treat. There are two ways to determine who to treat during pregnancy. One way is to perform a vaginal culture on all patients between 35-37 weeks and treat only those with a positive culture. The other way is to use "risk" groups, i.e. those with prolonged ruptured membranes, delivery prior to 37 weeks or in your case, a history of a positive urine culture. Risk is only used to define the circumstances used to decide whom to treat... Lynn
