Re: 2nd trimester losses

A word of reassurance... I am one of those women who has had a 2nd trimester loss, however it was due to a VERY Rare chromosomal problem and the chances of something like that happening again to me are a million to one. We are trying to get pregnant again, and even having had this awful experience, I still feel very confident that getting past the 12 week mark will be an assurance that all is well.

Causes for 2nd trimester losses include mostly chromosome problems, but there are immunity or incompatibility issues and rare complications from parvo virus. But the important thing to keep in mind is that none of those things are common, in fact I think the numbers of a loss after 12 weeks when all has been well to date is less than 2%.

Another note — This forum tends to distill the general population into a preponderance of women who have complications, recurrant loss and other fertility or preganncy problems, (hence their reasons for posting in the first place), so one can get a skewed sense of what is reasonable to fear.

Good luck with your pregnancy
