Good morning. I am currently being treated for a UTI that was never cultured to find out the bacteria. I called the Dr's office with my symptoms and they called in a RX this past wednesday for a sulfur antibiotic. I had severe burning, frequent urination, itching and so much blood/clots it was actually heavier than my periods. What i am concerned about is that i had a miscarriage at 5 weeks on Nov 17th. It was not heavy by any means and only lasted 4 days. I am 33 and in excellent health and have a 6 year old and 2 year old thru uneventful pregnancies. Here are my questions:

#1 How is the test run for T mycoplasma/ureaplasma? A chemist friend of mine said they run a blood test to check for the antibodies. But i thought it was a urine culture. #2 If it is thru a urine culture, would the fact that i am on my last day, today, of the antibiotic, render the test a false negative if i did indeed have the infection? And if so how long should i wait to have the urine culture done before i can be sure of the result. #3And lastly, with the miscarriage only a few weeks ago would it seem reasonable for a patient to request the doctor for a test for mycoplasma? And if its hard to culture would it be reasonable to just treat the husband and wife with tetracyclene anyway as a precaution? #4,Oh! i forgot one last thing, what does the T stand for in t mycoplasma? Are mycoplasma and ureaplasma the same thing?

Its a true honor to have you read my questions, Dr's. Sincerely, Ann
