Fever during early pregnancyFrom: Allyson (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 4 Dec 2001 17:25:21 -0600 (CST)
Saturday morning I woke up with flu like symptoms and a fever of 101.8. I was 5w5d pg. I called my Dr who told me to drink lots of fluids, take Tylenol and rest. He didn't seem concerned about it at all. Now it is Tuesday and for the last 4 days my fever has fluctuated between 99.4 and 100.8 or so, never getting higher than the 101.8 on the first day. My question is how does this effect the baby and risk of birth defects? I am reading online about how fever can increase neural tube defects and heart defects. I can't understand why my Dr seemed so non chalant about it? Should I be really worried or do you need a fever over 102 to really cause damage?
