Spotting or light period?

I am trying to conceive. I have a regular 26 day cycle for my menses, lasting for about 5 days. It usually starts off pretty heavy the 1st 2 days. However, in this cycle, I started spotting on day 26, day 28 and then some very light yellowish discharge. I thought it's implantation so I tried a pregnancy test on day 29 which turned out negative! Any clue? Can it be a false negative, or I'm just missing my menses this cycle?
