Re: a question about incompetent cervix issues

Here is the scoop. A digital exam will tell a Dr how long the external cervix feels and approx how long and how soft. An ultrasound will show what the internal os measurement is by approximation. You must stop sticking your finger up to your cervix if you are the least bit worried about incompetent cervix issues. My concern is you can give yourself an infection and your evaluation is meaningless. An incompetent cervix has more to it than cervical length. You are not going to rule out this condition with self evaluation. You can have a really short cervix and not have an incompetent cervix at all. Also at your week of pregnancy an incompetent cervix does not manifest itself. the majority of these cases are only picked up on by serial scans and much later into pregnancy 18-24 weeks when many of these incompetent cervix issues come up.
