Genetic counselor, and chromosomal risk questions

I recently spoke to a geneetic counselor who scared me.

I had 3 m/c's. Only was one was tested and shown to be a trisomy 2. I have also had a lap for endo and had a septum removed since then. My husband and I both have normal karyotypes. She said that the karyotype is just a blood test, and that abnormalities can be in the testes and ovaries. Is that true?

I am 32 and would be 33 when the baby is born. She said that I have a higher risk of chromosomal abnormalities then the average person my age. My regular OB and RE said that I had just as much chance as the average person to have a healthy pregnancy and carry to term. Who is right?

Also, she said that an AFP test with an u/s is not conclusive, and that many babies are born with chromosomal abnormalities not detected by these tests.

After 3 m/c's, though, do you agree that I should only do an amnio if the AFP test is out of whack?

And also, how often are you surprised at delivery or after due to chromosomal abnormalities that were not detected on the AFP or u/s?

Also, she said even if you are at a low risk for Down's, you can still have that happen.

How often do you have a low risk on an AFP and then find Down's?

Thank you so much for all the help you give to us.

Wendy
