Pregnancy Tests

Hello, I have recently stopped taking the pill in order to conceive. My last menstration started Nov. 13. I would expect the next one to be the week of Dec.10. This morning I used a home pregnancy test and the results were negative. Does this mean that I am not pregnant, or that I should really retest after Dec.10 to make sure? That is, do you have to be "pregnant" for a specific period of time before a home pregnancy test picks it up? Thanks for your help, Maria
