possible to menstruate w/o ovulation?

Is it possible to menstruate even without ovulating? My ob/gyn told me yes and I wonder why. 1. If yes, then the period would be lighter due to the lack of ovulation? I have very regular cycles. Every month it comes on time. If I didn't ovulate how could it be so regular? Besides I charted BBT and every month I could see the pattern (temperatures below coverline before possible ovulation and above coverline after possible ovulation, but just no EWCM). How can this indicate a cycle with no ovulation? 2. I asked my dr. this question because my periods are lighter than before the D&C; but the dr. said this is possibly because I didn't ovulate or maybe due to hormorne reason (he ruled out adhesion coz HSG result came back fine). But I have tested for all the hormornes and all are normal then what hormorne would cause this light period? Thanks a million for your answer!
