Chorio-amniotic separationFrom: Jessica (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Nov 2001 15:23:55 -0600 (CST)
I had another ultrasound today, 16W/5D. I was diagnosed earlier with an extra section of placenta, and today, the doctor clearly showed me a pocket of blood within the layers of the amniotic sac. He said the separation was a pretty normal finding between 12-16 weeks of pregnancy. Growth is terrific, baby is doing great, but he said he wants to monitor me with serial ultrasounds just to make sure. I asked him about the possibility of an amniotic band, and he said absolutely not- he said it was too flexible, and very clearly a separation of the sac layers. He told me to take it easy (I'm bleeding), but that the blood was working its way out through the cervix, and I would most likely continue to bleed for awhile, and that bedrest was not a necessity. Just lifting restrictions, and encouragement for rest when I can. I just want some reassurance that it's okay to have this separation at a later date than expected, and some reassurance that it will likely heal. I had this in a prior pregnancy, diagnosed at 16 weeks, and gone at 20 weeks. Is that likely to happen again? Is this a benign situation-my doctor said except for the bleeding, this is not a big deal. Thanks. Jessica
