Re: OPK Ladies - When you get a positive on your OPKS is the test line as wide as the ref lineFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 30 Nov 2001 13:57:39 -0600 (CST)
I find these tests very hard to read and I too would recommend testing for longer than the package recommends or at least testing until you get a temperture increase on BBT charts. I have cycles that can range from 18-26 days so once I started testing on day 5 and didn't ovulate until day 16. Over this period there were two times prior to the real surge that I thought were positive. Usually the line was as dark as the test line but thinner (interestingly the line darkness could vary significantly from day to day). Since I was charting my BBT I was able to tell that these were false positives because I did not get a temperature change. When I got my true positive the line was much darker than the test line and was followed by the temperature change. In hindsight it was obvious what the true positive looked like (it was much darker although still slightly thinner) but at the time it was very difficult to judge what was positive. I could have easily thought some of the false positives were the real thing. On the other hand since the false positives are causing you to engage in the appropriate behavior it may not make a difference. If you are already having sex every other day there may be already sperm in the pipline even if you do not hit the surge right on. Nancy
