Uterus didelphysFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 30 Nov 2001 12:57:46 -0600 (CST)
I've read the archives on this subject, but I'm still left with a couple of questions. My wife was diagnosed with uterine didelphys several years ago (she's now 27 years old). She's seen an OB-GYN about her condition and the complications she'll probably face in trying to have a baby. This doctor (like others in the past) says she's at high risk of miscarriage, the need for a C-section delivery, and multiple births. The question I have is, how "high" is high risk? In other words, is it more common for women with this condition to get through it and have a child, or to find they can never conceive? I know you can't always put percentages on this, but are we talking closer to a 20% chance or 80% chance of having a healthy baby? Basically, I just want to know if our chances are better than 50/50 -- or worse. (Note: Aside from my wife's didelphys uterus, she's in excellent health.) Also, I've seen posts here that mention the need to have the septum surgically removed a year before conception. But, none of my wife's doctors has ever suggested that as a necessary step before we have a child. Should we be considering it? Or, is that only is certain cases?
