Incompetent Cervix QuestionsFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Nov 2001 06:55:44 -0600 (CST)
I have had 3 d&c's due to 3 m/c's. 1 at 11 weeks, and 2 at 7 weeks. I am now 11 weeks pregnant, and am seeing a perinatologist as a precaution. My question is: How high of a risk for incompetent cervix due to the d&c's? Yesterday, he did a vaginal u/s to get a baseline cervix length, etc as he will check this when I come in again. He told me that there is no way to know if one will have an incompetent cervix. For example, it can be closed one day, and open another, and boom you lose your child. So, why is this even being monitored if it is not a gradual process, and there is no way to prevent it without a stitch which they don't give unless you lose a baby???? Right now they say my cervix is very long and closed, but that doesn't mean anything, right? Thank you for the insight. i just can't imagine making it this far after 3 m/c's, and then lose one like that. Can you tell me how often you see someone lose one due to incompetent cervix, and if 1st trimester d&c's usually play a role. Sorry so long. Wendy
