Re: brilliant 'light shows' in eyesFrom: Gail (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 29 Nov 2001 23:34:58 -0600 (CST)
Hey, Kristy, I had the same thing with both my previous pregnancies. My doc said it can be a symptom of pre-enclampsia (thus the need to call right away and get it checked out) but it can also be an "optical migraine"... they can be painful like a migraine or painless, like mine. I couldn't see very well for the bright zig-zagging light during them. Also, because I have really bad eyesight the optometrist says that I'm more at risk for detached retina, and they can also be a warning signal for that. So I'm currently under orders to try to get to my optometrist DURING my next one, if possible, so he can take a look at it while it's occurring and make sure it's not my retinas. So far everything has checked out fine, but it's good to take the precautions. I understand they're not uncommon during pregnancy. Good luck!
