Paps screen for cervicalcancer, so if you haven't had a pap in a while it is needed. I think it highly unusual that a pap smear would have been done in an ER. It is possible that whatever you were there for in the first place may be related to an ultimate miscariage. Paps are perfectly safe in pregnancy in a normal cervix.
