I know several women who were all induced at their OWN request because their husbands travelled for work or their mom was in town to help with the baby who was not yet here or they didn't want to be in hospital over Christmas. One even had it as one of her requirements for deciding what OB to use. Perhaps the doctors sould not have agreed to the procedures. But as this discussion shows the evidence for/against induction can be interpeted differently so the doctors do the procedure. I also know of women who turned down VBACs when offered them (they prefered c/s with all the risks). I know women who would never dream of giving birth without an epidural (and yes they know of the risks to mother and baby). These are not the decisions I would make but lets not make a global statement that blames the doctor and fails to acknowledge that properly informed women (and YES they are well informed) still make decisions that others will not agree with. There are many different patients and doctors out there. There are doctors who may push procedures on women but there are also women who want the intervention. I happen to agree that natural is best but lets be realistic not everyone wants this and we can't just blame it on the evil Dr-God it is much more complex. Nancy
