Dr. Chudacoff. Always like a good bone picking. Interesting discussion. You are mistaken in assuming I do not trust my OB. I have nothing but praise for him. He has guided us through a somewhat complicated pregnancy because of ACA. (history of miscarriages) I am grateful for his meticulous care. This is my second pregnancy with him. It seemed reasonable to ask our pediatrician what his feelings were about Valtrex, since my baby's care does not end at childbirth. This baby will go on living with whatever possible long term effects the Valtrex (or the aspirin and heparin) would have on its system. The pediatrician might see children whose mothers would have taken Valtrex during their pregnancy. (he has only two Moms in his very busy practice) It's in my nature to be as informed as possible. As a parent, that's my duty to my child. I have to make the decision for him/her. I want to make sure it is a sound one. Unfortunately I have found very little info available to a layperson such as myself and have read some conflicting information about the drug. (The pamphlet that comes with the drug states that there is not enough info to make a conclusive determination about the effects of the drug on pregnancy) I am somewhat relieved to hear you say it is a category B drug. Clearly my pediatrician's info is not up to date. However the words you used "relatively safe in pregnancy" are what resonate for me. What does relatively mean? It's the big ? mark. Is this that no one knows for sure? Thanks for your reply, your point of view and the time you invest on this forum. NK
