Re: 101/2 weeks (lmp) pregnant, fetal heart rate qFrom: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 12 Nov 2001 11:53:57 -0600 (CST)
I am NOT a health professional, but another pregnant woman (16 weeks). At 9 weeks I had a little bit of spotting after hours and went to the ER at the on-call nurse's recommendation. U/S showed a normal looking fetus with a heartrate of 175. The ER doc told me that my chances of m/c at that point were (and I quote) "Less than 5% - closer to 3%." The U/S tech told me during that exam that there is a surge in h/r at about 9 weeks, and that rates of 170-180 were not uncommon. My h/r at 7 weeks was 155, at 9 weeks was 175, and now, from 12 weeks on with a home doppler, is hovering in the 160s. You may still be in that surging pattern. Apparently the heartrates continue to slow down through the 3rd trimester. I think you can find rates of chromosonal abnormalities as a percentage of live births at various points on the web - although it is possible to carry a fetus with chromosonal abnormalities to term, the chances are very very slim for most women. I've only seen guess-timates at what causes 1st trimester miscarriages, but certainly chromosonal abnormalities seem to be a large percentage. Anyway, sorry to ramble. Hope this helps - good luck to you.
