Ok, first of all, I'm and HPT ADDICT (took 8 with this pg, 5 with my daughter!), but I would say you have a convincing arguement to take a test now. My ob recommends waiting until 16 dpo (day 30 in a normal cycle) and with your shorter cycle you are almost certainly at least 16 dpo. I too have shorter than normal cycles, and I had the brownish stain with both my pregnancies. I tested + this time at 12 dpo (and again at 13, then 14 then 15...LOL). I'm not a doctor however, so this is just my opinion.
