possible ringworm near vagina- prescription questionFrom: Sheila (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 Oct 2001 23:28:12 -0500
I am 5.3 weeks pregnant and was today prescribed nystatin/triamcinolone topical cream to treat possible ringworm located near opening of my vagina. The information that came with the prescription really frightens me: "This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks and benefits with doctor. Though very unlikely, it is possible that this med. may be absorbed into bloodstream that may require additional corticosteroid treatment." etc. Am I at increased risk for absorbtion into bloodstream because of proximity of infection to mucous membranes in genital region? Also, what is danger of untreated ringworm infection to fetus? Thank you, Sheila G.
