'turning' uterus??

Every single time I have a contraction, it appears that my baby squishes way over to the right side of the uterus and it's hard as a rock there, while on the left side, it almost seems somewhat caved in. My doctor said something about why this happens. He said something about how the large bowel is on the left, so when a contraction occurs, the uterus "turns" or "twists" over to the right. Can a doctor please explain this in more detail? Thank you...Kristy B.
