Re: Thank you NATALIE!!From: natalie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 15 Oct 2001 15:20:55 -0500 (CDT)
Shelby, I'm so glad I could help you. If the dilantin makes you feel "goofy", then maybe you could try lowering your dose (I'm not sure what you are on now, though). It took many months of adjusting my dose so that I was at the lowest dose that kept me in the therapeutic range. My neurologist tells me that this is best, at least for me. When I first started carbamezapine, I too felt groggy and tired. Now on this low dose I feel perfect. I will stay on it for the rest of my life, and I have no problem with that. Remember when you are pregnant to have your levels checked frequently, especially in the first trimester, because your blood levels will probably decrease as your blood volume increases. You will need to up your dose accordingly (only while you are pregnant). I had this happen with both pregnancies. Once I was pregnant, I really tried hard not to let the anxiety get the best of me until I had my structural sonogram. I just told myself that being on the folic acid would prevent any problems (I knew there was still a risk, but smaller). It was my mental way of not going crazy. I knew from the moment I was pregnant with Connor and this little girl that everything was fine. I know it is hard, but once you are pregnant try not to worry. Things will work out for you. Good luck!
