Claritin/antihistaminesFrom: Lori (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 9 Oct 2001 08:53:11 -0500 (CDT)
Even though Claritin is rated Class B, why is it that doctors are still hesitant for pregnant women to take antihistamines? I have ongoing problems with fluid in my ears which eventually leads to infection. I've had 2 since becomming pregnant and have had to take Cefzil each time. Before the 2nd infection, I tried Sudafed to alleviate symptoms which didn't work. Guanifex helped tremendously at the very beginning of my pregnancy but now I'm told not to take that until after I deliver. My primary care has now prescribed Claritin because he is thinking the reason I have fluid is because of seasonal allergies. To be honest, after taking Cefzil twice, a few Guanifex, Sudafed, and Tylenol for pain I'm very worried I've already overdone medication during this pregnancy! At the same time I really need relief from this congestion. I guess my main question is about the antihistamine and why they are avoided in most cases. Thanks! Lori
